The operating backdrop supporting these valuation inputs is the company's disclosed 2026-2030 capital plan of about $78 billion, about 63GW of incremental contracted load, and a 7%-9% operating-earnings growth target.

For long-term conservative capital, what really matters is not "how high the optimistic case can go," but "whether the conservative value still provides a margin of safety." On that measure, the current $128.87 is already clearly above my conservative value range.

Method 2: Relative valuation. [Fact] Comparing headline P/E, AEP trades at about 19.1x, below Southern's 23.9x, Xcel's 23.0x, and NextEra's 22.4x, and close to Dominion's 20.1x; Duke's GAAP P/E of about 589x is obviously distorted by one-time items and cannot be used directly. Based on AEP's own 2025 year-end common equity of $31.138 billion, its current P/B is about 2.26x; roughly using market cap plus net debt, EV/EBITDA is about 13.7x. P/FCF calculated strictly on a CFO − construction capex basis is meaningless, since that FCF measure remains negative.

[Inference] Relative valuation does not lead me to conclude "AEP is cheap," but rather that AEP sits toward the lower-middle of the valuation band among large utilities, yet still looks more like "near fair value" than "a clear discount." This aligns with the owner-earnings conclusion.

Method 3: Asset/liquidation value. [Fact] AEP's year-end 2025 common equity was about $31.138 billion, equivalent to a book value of roughly $57-58 per share; net electric plant assets were about $92.374 billion, while total debt was also close to $48.83 billion.
