Second-quarter non-GAAP operating margin was 27%, up from 25.5% in the prior quarter but down from 30.3% a year earlier, because headcount and R&D are running ahead of the ramp. Onto Innovation, the closest listed peer, guides third-quarter gross margin of 57.3% to 57.8% and operating margin of 31.5% to 32.5%, both above Camtek. Camtek is a first-tier supplier in packaging inspection alongside Onto and KLA, but the report does not credit it with dominant share or top-tier margin.
Concentration is the risk the report keeps returning to. Asia-Pacific was about 91% of 2025 revenue and China alone $243.9 million, or 49%. No single customer exceeded 11%, yet roughly three quarters of revenue rides on one spending theme, so several customers reacting to the same AI-capacity signal could behave like customer concentration. Cash conversion is uneven too: first-half operating cash flow was only $15.3 million.
Price is where the report is least enthusiastic. At $146.66 the stock trades near 30 times next-year consensus earnings and roughly 52 times normalized 2025 owner earnings by the report's own calculation, about 29% below the May record but still nearly twice the 52-week low. The ideal buy zone is $86 to $96, $130 to $170 is an acceptable hold, $215 and above is clearly expensive, and at today's price there is no margin of safety.

Research scope: first-time initiation based on public information available through 2026-08-26. The primary valuation line is Nasdaq CAMT in USD; the TASE CAMT and Deutsche Börse CMZDB quotations are secondary liquidity references and are not used to set the valuation bands. The lens is general research, with both a 12-month and a 3–5-year horizon and balanced risk tolerance.
Two corrections to the supplied starting facts matter before the analysis begins. Camtek officially reported Q2 2026 on August 10, 2026, rather than August 17. The more consequential correction: FY2025 GAAP net income of $50.7 million was down about 57%, not 43%, from $118.5 million in 2024; 50.7 is approximately 43% of the prior-year amount. Non-GAAP net income, by contrast, rose about 15% to $159.0 million.
Research summary
Camtek today is best understood as a focused process-control supplier that has migrated from its printed-circuit-board origins into one of the semiconductor industry's most capital-intensive growth bottlenecks: advanced packaging. It sells inspection and metrology machines rather than chips, and its economics depend on how aggressively foundries, memory makers, integrated device manufacturers and outsourced semiconductor assembly-and-test companies add packaging capacity. Its machines identify defects and measure structures on wafers and packages; customers buy them because a defective bump, interconnect or stacked-die structure can destroy the value of an increasingly expensive package downstream. Camtek's 2025 revenue was still 94% product sales and only about 6% service fees, so the installed base provides qualification stickiness and aftermarket revenue but does not turn the company into a recurring-revenue software business.
The company has undergone a genuine change in economic exposure. The August 2026 presentation puts roughly 55% of the current business in HPC/AI-related applications and another roughly 20% in non-AI advanced packaging. In other words, about three quarters of sales now sit in advanced packaging and more than half of total revenue is already associated with HPC/AI. Management says Eagle G5 and Hawk, the newer systems designed for increasingly demanding packaging applications, represented about half of Q2 revenue.
That concentration is the source of both the investment case and its largest vulnerability. The bull case is no longer that Camtek might benefit someday from heterogeneous integration. That benefit is already visible. Revenue grew from $155.9 million in 2020 to $496.1 million in 2025, while non-GAAP operating income rose from about $27 million to $149 million. The current question is whether the next leg is durable enough to justify the valuation being placed on it.
The immediate numbers are unusually steep. H1 2026 revenue was $254.9 million. Management now says H2 revenue should be more than 30% higher than H1, after having said more than 25% only one quarter earlier. That implies H2 revenue above roughly $331.4 million and FY2026 revenue above roughly $586.3 million. With Q3 guidance at $158–160 million, the arithmetic requires Q4 revenue above approximately $172.4 million merely to hit the bottom edge of the “more than 30%” H2 claim. That would take quarterly revenue from $121.7 million in Q1 to more than $172 million in Q4, a rise exceeding 40% within nine months. These are my calculations from management's disclosed figures.
There is evidence underneath the claim. Camtek disclosed more than $600 million of orders received from January through July 2026, with shipments scheduled through the rest of 2026 and into 2027. Roughly 80% of those orders were for advanced packaging. OSATs represented more than half of total order intake, while management cited large orders from multiple HBM customers and capacity expansion by foundries, IDMs and OSATs for 2.5D/3D integration. Advanced-packaging revenue itself is expected to grow roughly 45% from H1 to H2 and approximately 70% between Q1 and Q4.
This matters because it weakens one bear interpretation: the Q3 step-up does not look like a single isolated shipment pulled forward from Q4. The disclosed order composition points to several customer types and delivery extending into 2027. The evidence does not establish that the growth is permanently broad-based, however. Camtek does not publish backlog by named customer, order-cancellation provisions, application or scheduled quarter. A $600 million order statistic therefore cannot simply be divided by quarterly revenue to create a guaranteed revenue forecast.
The concentration question is broader than a single customer. In 2025 the largest individual customer accounted for 11% of revenue, versus three customers at 15%, 10% and 10% in 2024. That is manageable customer concentration by semiconductor-equipment standards. Application concentration is much higher: roughly 75% of current revenue comes from advanced packaging. Geographic concentration is higher still. Asia-Pacific represented about 91% of 2025 revenue, and China alone contributed $243.9 million, or 49%.
That creates a subtle distinction. Camtek does not appear dependent on one customer in the conventional sense. It is increasingly dependent on one capital-spending architecture: more HBM stacks, larger interposers, more chiplets, tighter bump pitches and higher inspection intensity per package. A synchronized pause by several customers responding to the same AI-capacity signal could therefore behave economically like customer concentration even when no customer individually exceeds 11%.
The external evidence still supports the expansion side of the debate. TSMC's 2025 annual report described AI-related demand as robust and reported continued investment in advanced packaging, while Micron entered high-volume production of HBM4 in 2026 and described multi-year customer arrangements as improving the predictability of its memory demand. These are real downstream capacity signals, not merely Camtek's own marketing. They do not eliminate the semiconductor capex cycle: a period of over-ordering can be followed by digestion even when long-run AI compute demand continues to grow.
The margin path is less proven than the revenue path. Q2 non-GAAP operating margin was 27%, up from 25.5% in Q1 but down from 30.3% a year earlier. Headcount rose from 697 in Q2 2025 to 764 in Q2 2026. H1 R&D expense rose to $31.0 million from $21.8 million a year earlier while H1 revenue increased only about 5%. Camtek is spending ahead of the expected ramp. That creates upside operating leverage if the orders convert, but also makes a delivery slip more expensive.
The company's longer-range model envisages moving from roughly a $500 million revenue scale toward $750 million, with gross margin rising into 54–55% and operating margin into 33–35%. Earnings-call reporting separately describes a near-term goal of reaching roughly 30–32% operating margin by the end of 2026. The $750 million model is aspirational rather than guidance; it assumes richer software and service mix, new-generation products and operating leverage.
The accounting requires unusual care. FY2025's $108.3 million gap between GAAP and non-GAAP net income is fully reconcilable. Starting with $50.722 million of GAAP net income, Camtek added back $2.801 million of FRT acquisition-related expense, $88.682 million of after-tax loss associated with extinguishing convertible notes and $16.819 million of stock compensation, producing $159.024 million of non-GAAP net income.
The $88.7 million item was not simply cosmetic accounting noise. Camtek paid about $267.0 million to repurchase $167.1 million principal amount of its old convertible notes after a large rise in the stock, generating approximately $100.9 million of pre-tax extinguishment expense. It was a financing transaction rather than a recurring operating cost, so GAAP badly understates 2025's underlying operating performance. Yet the cash premium paid to noteholders represented a real transfer of value. Non-GAAP earnings are therefore the more informative starting point for measuring the operating business, while owner earnings and fully diluted share count are the better basis for valuation.
The balance sheet can absorb that history. At June 30, 2026 Camtek had $815.8 million of cash, deposits and marketable securities against $488.5 million of convertible-note carrying value, leaving approximately $327 million of net liquid resources before other balance-sheet items. Receivables were $153.9 million and inventory, including long-term inventory, approximately $116.8 million. The company is solvent and liquid; the financial risk lies more in dilution, working-capital absorption and capital allocation than in refinancing distress.
Competitive quality is respectable but should not be exaggerated. Onto Innovation identifies Camtek and KLA among its principal competitors in advanced-packaging inspection. Camtek itself lists Onto, KLA and several narrower Asian and metrology suppliers. That cross-identification is more useful than manufacturer claims of “leadership”: it establishes that Camtek is a first-tier relevant supplier in its niche. It does not prove dominant market share.
KLA is a very different animal: a much larger process-control platform with fiscal-2026 revenue of $13.58 billion, quarterly gross margins around the low 60s and $3.77 billion of FY2026 free cash flow. Onto is a closer advanced-packaging comparison and is guiding Q3 2026 gross margin of 57.3–57.8% and non-GAAP operating margin of 31.5–32.5%, both above Camtek's current levels. Nova is a useful Israeli metrology benchmark but is more heavily oriented toward front-end dimensional and materials metrology than Camtek's packaging-weighted mix.
The stock itself has already priced a large part of the change. It reached an all-time closing high of $207.46 on May 11, 2026, then closed at $146.66 on August 25, about 29% below that high. Yet $146.66 remains almost twice the 52-week low of $75.75. The Q1 print is instructive: after the stock had reached a record, a quarter that beat estimates and guided Q2 above consensus still produced a roughly 16% one-day decline because the market wanted a steeper acceleration.
The Q2 reaction also needs correction. On Nasdaq, CAMT did not fall close-to-close on August 10: it opened at $169.94, traded as high as $170.18, then closed at $158.10, still up 1.77% from August 7. The signal that mattered was the intraday reversal of about 7% from the open despite a beat and much stronger guidance. The stock then traded lower over subsequent sessions and reached $146.66 by August 25. This looks more like expectations and multiple compression than rejection of the fundamental guidance.
My qualitative portrait is “company in transition”: the PCB-to-semiconductor transition is long finished, but Camtek is now moving from a diversified mid-end inspection vendor into an AI-advanced-packaging specialist with materially higher growth, concentration and expectations.
The core disagreement is therefore unusually clean. Bulls believe the more than $600 million order intake, HBM4 transition, chiplet adoption and multiple-customer capacity additions establish a multi-year step-up in Camtek's revenue base, while new systems and software lift margins. Bears believe a hardware supplier with about 75% exposure to one spending theme and nearly half of 2025 revenue in China is being valued as though today's AI packaging build-out will compound smoothly through the semiconductor cycle. Both sides have evidence. The next twelve months should resolve a meaningful part of the dispute.
Company vertical history and financial evolution
Camtek's present niche makes much more sense when viewed through its origin. The company was incorporated in Israel in 1987. Its first business was manual optical inspection for printed circuit boards. It introduced its first automated PCB optical-inspection system in 1994 and its Orion platform in the late 1990s, where image processing, optics, precision motion and automated defect recognition became the technical base that would later be transferred into semiconductors.
Rafi Amit is not a recently hired executive applying an AI label to a mature equipment company. He is a Camtek founder. He served as chairman from the company's formation, was CEO from 1998 to 2010, returned to the CEO role in January 2014 and remains CEO in 2026. CFO Moshe Eisenberg has been in his role since 2011. That continuity matters because the major strategic decisions discussed below were made under substantially the same core leadership.
The early PCB market was a logical birthplace for optical inspection. Rising board density made manual defect detection less reliable, while electronics manufacturing increasingly demanded automated yield control. Camtek's early product proposition was therefore not fundamentally different from today's: detect defects early enough that the customer avoids processing bad material further down the line. What changed was the value of what it was inspecting.
Camtek went public in July 2000, with Nasdaq trading beginning July 28. It sold 5.835 million ordinary shares and received approximately $34.96 million after $5.88 million of offering costs. Those figures imply gross proceeds of approximately $40.83 million, or exactly $7.00 per offered share. A reliable contemporaneous fully diluted post-IPO share count was not available in the primary material surfaced for this report, so I do not reconstruct an IPO market capitalization from uncertain data.
The timing was difficult. Camtek listed just as the technology bubble broke and electronics capital expenditure entered a harsh downturn. In 2002 it raised another $6.1 million through a rights offering, almost all subscribed by then-parent Priortech. The company was therefore not born as a clean semiconductor compounder. It spent its early listed life searching for a larger application for its inspection technology.
The first major turn came in 2001, when Camtek acquired a developer of semiconductor AOI systems, giving it entry into semiconductor inspection and packaging. After internal development, the first Falcon system shipped in late 2003 and began recognizing revenue in 2004. By 2006 Falcon generated almost $40 million, around 40% of total revenue. Camtek subsequently added Condor, Gannet and Eagle.
The economic logic held. PCB inspection had trained Camtek in optical acquisition and defect algorithms, but semiconductor packaging presented higher economic value per inspected unit and increasingly demanding geometry. Camtek could reuse its core engineering capabilities while moving closer to a richer semiconductor profit pool.
Execution during the 2000s and early 2010s was less linear. Camtek acquired Printar assets in 2009 and entered functional inkjet technology, an activity it gradually reduced and finally closed in 2018. It also acquired Sela in 2009 to enter front-end SEM/TEM sample preparation, then transferred that business out in 2015 after product write-offs and strategic retreat. Those experiments show a management team willing to abandon businesses that failed to develop sufficient economics, but they also show that its semiconductor specialization was learned rather than inevitable.
The defining decision arrived in 2017. Camtek sold its PCB inspection business to Trophy Imaging Technology for $32 million at closing plus a subsequent $1.257 million contingent payment. From that point, all product lines were semiconductor-related, and management explicitly redirected resources toward semiconductor inspection and metrology. The transaction created a $12.5 million one-time contribution to GAAP net income from the PCB sale.
That divestiture deserves more weight than most of the later product announcements. It removed the business that had created Camtek but also diluted its growth and margin profile. From 2017 onward, advanced packaging became increasingly central. Camtek's Q3 2018 release was already describing advanced packaging as its primary target market, years before generative AI made the phrase fashionable. Revenue from continuing operations was $32.3 million that quarter, up 35% year over year, with GAAP gross margin around 50%.
Ownership changed in 2019. Taiwan-based Chroma ATE bought 6.117 million Camtek shares from Priortech and 1.7 million newly issued shares from Camtek at $9.50 each, a 29% premium to the pre-announcement Nasdaq price. The combined transaction was worth $74.3 million. Chroma gained board representation while Priortech remained a large shareholder. By March 2026 Priortech still held about 9.62 million shares. The relationship creates a sizeable strategic shareholder bloc without a dual-class share structure.
Then came the first major scale phase. Revenue rose from $134.0 million in 2019 to $155.9 million in 2020, $269.7 million in 2021 and $320.9 million in 2022. Camtek raised approximately $68.4 million gross in a November 2020 offering at $17 per share, issuing 4.025 million shares including the underwriters' option. The timing was sensible: capital was raised into accelerating semiconductor demand and then deployed from a much stronger balance sheet.
The 2021–22 surge was partly company execution and partly an industry supercycle. Semiconductor shortages pulled forward equipment spending across logic, memory and packaging. Camtek's revenue more than doubled from 2020 to 2022, and non-GAAP net income rose from $26.0 million to about $90.5 million. That scale created a materially better business, but 2023 showed the cyclical component: revenue slipped to $315.4 million.
Management used the 2023 slowdown to widen the metrology portfolio. In November 2023 Camtek closed the $100 million cash acquisition of FRT Metrology from FormFactor. FRT added surface-metrology technologies and multi-sensor capabilities, broadening Camtek beyond inspection and reducing dependence on a single measurement method. It also created acquired-intangible and integration expenses that subsequently appear in the non-GAAP reconciliation.
The next turn came from advanced packaging for AI. Revenue jumped 36% in 2024 to $429.2 million and another 16% in 2025 to $496.1 million. The mix shifted toward HPC and advanced packaging at the same time as HBM and 2.5D/3D packaging became bottlenecks for AI accelerators.
Product development accelerated. Eagle G5, launched in September 2024, was presented as delivering roughly 40% higher throughput and 25% better detection sensitivity than its predecessor. Hawk followed in February 2025 for chiplets, HBM and hybrid-bonding applications, with Camtek claiming detection down to roughly 150 nanometers and about twice Eagle G5's throughput in relevant workloads. By Q2 2026 the two products together generated about half of quarterly revenue. These are company performance claims rather than independent cross-vendor benchmarks, but the revenue mix shows that customers are buying the platforms in scale.
Camtek added Visual Layer in 2026, acquiring a Tel Aviv visual-AI team founded by Danny Bickson and Amir Alush. The intent is to move more defect classification and analytics into AI software and to apply those capabilities across Camtek's inspection data. Camtek says its expanded AI capabilities address a 2027 market opportunity exceeding $2 billion. I treat that figure as a company-defined TAM, not an independently verified market size and not an input to my valuation.
The financing story also changed in 2025. Camtek issued $500 million of zero-coupon convertible notes due 2030 with an initial conversion price around $109.34 per share, then used about $267 million to repurchase $167.1 million principal amount of older 2026 notes. The new conversion price was about 30% above the share price when the financing was set, but CAMT at $146.66 is now well above it. The financing was cheap in cash-interest terms; it was not free in economic terms because equity appreciation creates conversion value for noteholders.
The lasting capability across Camtek's history is technological migration: it repeatedly moved the same optical inspection and image-analysis core toward applications where defects became more expensive and inspection intensity rose. The failed side ventures matter because they show this capability was developed by trial and capital discipline, not by uninterrupted product success.
The financial record since 2020 captures the business transition more clearly than a chronological list of announcements:

The table tells three stories. First, the core revenue trend is real: FY2025 revenue was more than three times FY2020. Second, non-GAAP earnings scaled faster than revenue as semiconductor focus improved product mix and operating leverage. Third, cash conversion is uneven. H1 2026 produced only about $15 million of operating cash despite $74.7 million of non-GAAP net income as the company built receivables, inventory and capacity ahead of the H2 ramp.
FY2025's accounting anomaly should be isolated rather than allowed to contaminate the trend. The exact reconciliation is:

About 82% of the GAAP/non-GAAP gap came from the note extinguishment. I therefore use GAAP to describe reported results and legal accounting, non-GAAP to compare operating trends, and owner earnings for absolute valuation. Stock compensation is excluded from Camtek's non-GAAP numbers but remains an economic cost through dilution, so my valuation does not simply capitalize the $159 million non-GAAP line at a headline multiple.
Q2 2026 provides another smaller reconciliation. GAAP net income of $23.3 million becomes $39.4 million non-GAAP after adding back approximately $3.6 million of acquisition costs, $7.7 million of one-time tax expense and $4.9 million of stock compensation. This quarter's difference is much less alarming than FY2025's, although recurring SBC remains relevant.
The balance sheet is unusually liquid for a company of Camtek's size:

The large cash balance has two effects. It protects Camtek during an equipment downturn and gives it acquisition capacity. It also inflates interest income and depresses conventional return-on-assets measures, making consolidated ROA and ROIC less informative than operating margins and owner earnings. Interest income was $29.0 million in 2025, a meaningful contribution relative to operating profit.
Capital intensity is modest. FY2025 capital expenditure was approximately $22.5 million, about 4.5% of revenue, mainly for added production capacity plus R&D, operations and IT. Camtek relies on third-party suppliers and in some cases sole or limited-source component suppliers, so the economic model is closer to high-value equipment integration than a capital-heavy fabrication operation. That is one reason revenue growth can generate real cash when working capital is stable.
The current weakness in H1 cash flow is therefore more important than it would be for a company building billion-dollar fabs. A business with modest physical capex should ultimately convert earnings into cash. If receivables and inventory continue rising after the revenue ramp arrives, the quality of the earnings would deserve a downgrade.
Business model, moat, industry and cycle
Camtek reports essentially one operating business rather than providing separate profit-and-loss accounts for advanced packaging, memory, front-end and other applications. That limits external analysis of segment margins. The most useful disclosed split is product versus services: 2025 product sales were $468.5 million and service revenue $27.6 million. Services grew faster than the installed base historically, but they remain too small to stabilize the company through a large equipment downturn.
The revenue engine starts with a process transition at the customer. A foundry or OSAT changes bump geometry, adds redistribution layers, stacks more HBM dies, moves to larger interposers or adopts hybrid bonding. That creates defects or measurement challenges not handled efficiently by an old inspection recipe. Camtek places evaluation systems, qualifies the application, wins the production tool decision and then sells multiple systems as capacity ramps. New-product evaluation can take several quarters; repeat orders can be much faster.
This is why order timing is lumpy. Customers often want short delivery lead times after qualification even though optical assemblies and precision subsystems have long procurement lead times. Camtek therefore orders components before it has firm customer orders and carries inventory against forecasts. The model turns product qualification into a competitive advantage when demand is strong, but it also shifts inventory risk onto Camtek when demand changes suddenly.
Operating leverage comes from the difference between those variable system costs and a relatively fixed engineering/support base. Gross margin around 51% means roughly half of an incremental system's revenue is available before operating expenses. R&D, application engineering, sales/support infrastructure and much of headquarters cost are slower to adjust. That is why the path from 27% Q2 non-GAAP operating margin to 30–32% depends heavily on higher volume.
The current hiring shows management is positioning for that leverage. Headcount increased from 697 in Q2 2025 to 764 in Q2 2026. H1 2026 R&D rose about 42% while revenue rose roughly 5%. Those costs look excessive against the H1 revenue trajectory and reasonable against the guided H2 trajectory. The order conversion determines which interpretation proves correct.
I see four genuine moat components.
The first is application-specific technology rather than generic optical hardware. Inspection in advanced packaging requires a mix of high throughput, three-dimensional metrology, defect sensitivity, large-field imaging and increasingly sophisticated classification. Camtek's new generation is designed around precisely those compromises. Eagle G5 improved sensitivity and throughput; Hawk targets HBM, chiplets and hybrid bonding where more structures must be inspected without making inspection itself the throughput bottleneck.
The second is qualification and switching friction. The instrument becomes part of a customer's yield-control recipe. Once engineers have characterized defects, established thresholds and correlated results to downstream yield, replacing a qualified tool creates engineering work and production risk. That friction is meaningful but weaker than a proprietary network effect: customers can and do qualify multiple vendors. Onto's identification of both KLA and Camtek as competitors shows that multi-vendor alternatives remain credible.
The third is installed-base support. The 2025 20-F stated an installed base above 3,000 systems; Camtek's August 2026 “at a glance” presentation uses roughly 4,000 systems and 760 employees. Another presentation slide retains the older “over 3,000” wording, so I treat roughly 4,000 as the latest rounded corporate estimate rather than a precisely audited figure. Camtek had 315 employees in worldwide marketing and support at year-end 2025, reflecting the importance of local response in Asia.
The fourth is focus. KLA can spend vastly more on R&D, but its process-control franchise spans the entire fab. Camtek concentrates engineering resources on macro inspection, advanced packaging and adjacent metrology. In markets where the relevant defects are optically observable and throughput matters as much as ultimate resolution, that focus can be economically effective.
The weaker moat claims deserve equal attention. Camtek's brand is not a consumer franchise. Network effects are absent. Service is only around 6% of sales, limiting recurring lock-in. The company's patent portfolio and algorithms matter, but public disclosures do not establish an unassailable intellectual-property barrier. Visual Layer may improve software differentiation, but it was acquired only in 2026 and has not yet shown a separately disclosed revenue or margin contribution.
Camtek has a credible process-qualification moat, but the moat is application-specific and must be re-earned at each technology generation. That is a stronger business than commodity equipment and a weaker one than a monopoly process-control platform.
Management's record is strongest in strategic focus and balance-sheet preservation. Selling PCB in 2017, abandoning non-core Printar/Sela paths, raising equity before the 2021–22 expansion and buying FRT during the 2023 semiconductor slowdown all look rational in hindsight. The 2025 convertible refinancing is more ambiguous: zero-coupon financing is attractive, but repurchasing deeply in-the-money old converts cost a real $100 million premium over principal.
Governance has stability rather than complete dispersal. Founder Rafi Amit remains CEO, Priortech remains a major shareholder and Chroma gained a significant stake and board representation in 2019. This can support long-horizon decisions, but the associated shareholder bloc reduces the amount of truly free-floating control. There is no dual-class structure identified in the filings.
The industry cycle matters at least as much as management. Semiconductor inspection and metrology sit downstream from semiconductor capital expenditure but upstream from chip output. Demand rises when customers build or reconfigure production capacity, making the industry sensitive to both the conventional semiconductor inventory cycle and technology transitions.
Advanced packaging adds a second cycle on top. Conventional scaling puts more transistors on one die. Heterogeneous integration puts more dies, memory stacks and interconnects into one package. That raises packaging complexity per unit of compute and can increase inspection intensity even if semiconductor unit growth is moderate. TSMC's 2025 annual report described CoWoS-related advanced packaging as a major beneficiary of AI demand, while Micron entered HBM4 high-volume production in 2026.
This is why the current cycle can be structurally larger without becoming non-cyclical. AI accelerator demand can grow for years while capacity additions overshoot individual quarters. Once a customer has installed enough CoWoS or HBM capacity for the next generation, equipment orders can pause even as that customer's end revenue continues rising. Semiconductor-equipment investors are therefore buying the derivative of capacity additions, not merely the growth rate of AI inference.
Camtek's geography adds a policy cycle. China was 49% of 2025 revenue and Asia-Pacific 91%. The company explicitly warns that U.S. export-control measures introduced since October 2022 and tightened subsequently can reduce Chinese semiconductor-equipment demand even when those rules do not directly prohibit Camtek's own systems. It also warns about Chinese industrial policy supporting local competitors.
Israeli domicile adds operational geopolitical risk. Employees can be called for military reserve duty, and the company says insurance does not cover losses arising from the regional security situation. The physical manufacturing and R&D concentration around Israel therefore represents a real but low-frequency operating risk.
The industry profit pool remains tilted toward vendors whose tools become indispensable at the most yield-sensitive process steps. KLA's 60%-plus gross margins show what a broader, deeply entrenched process-control franchise can earn. Camtek at roughly 51–52% has attractive equipment economics but has not reached that tier. Onto's current high-50s gross-margin guidance likewise shows that Camtek has room to improve but also that current packaging exposure does not automatically confer the sector's top margin.
The relevant cycle position in August 2026 is late acceleration rather than early recovery. Orders have already surged, new systems are already shipping, and the stock already reached an AI-driven record. The operating inflection is ahead in H2 revenue, while the narrative inflection occurred earlier. That distinction will matter in valuation.
Horizontal competitor analysis and current fundamentals
The competitive landscape is best treated as Scenario C: several credible competitors, but only a small subset belongs in the direct comparison. Onto Innovation is the closest public advanced-packaging process-control peer. KLA is the global process-control benchmark and a threat wherever packaging inspection becomes strategically large enough for it to press harder. Nova is a useful metrology-quality benchmark but concentrates more heavily on front-end dimensional, materials and chemical metrology. Bruker and several Asian vendors matter in narrower niches, while Camtek also identifies firms including Skyverse, ATI, Cheng Mei, ASTI, Toray and Unity.
A cross-company financial table is helpful only if the period mismatch is explicit:

KLA became the industry's broad process-control platform. Its economic advantage is not merely a better version of a Camtek machine. Customers buy KLA across wafer inspection, patterned and unpatterned inspection, metrology, reticle and other process-control steps; the data, service organization and enormous R&D budget create a much wider footprint. That breadth helps support gross margins above 60% and enormous free cash generation. For Camtek shareholders, KLA is both a benchmark and a warning: packaging inspection can become attractive enough to draw deeper attention from the incumbent.
Onto became a more balanced advanced-node and advanced-packaging process-control supplier. It competes in inspection, lithography, metrology and process-control software, and its own filings explicitly name KLA and Camtek as principal advanced-packaging inspection competitors. Its current margin profile is stronger than Camtek's. Customers can choose Onto when they want a broader set of packaging process-control technologies from one vendor or have an existing installed base.
Camtek became the more focused packaging-weighted challenger. It lacks KLA's scale and Onto's breadth, but that narrower focus allows a high percentage of engineering effort to follow bump, HBM, chiplet and hybrid-bonding requirements. The fact that its latest two platforms already make up half of quarterly revenue suggests it can translate a technology transition into commercial adoption quickly.
Nova became something different: a precision-metrology specialist centered more heavily on front-end process control. Its principal competitive references are KLA and Onto in many metrology categories, which makes it useful for comparing Israeli semiconductor-equipment execution and valuation quality but less useful for estimating Camtek's share of advanced-packaging inspection.
Customer choice therefore cannot be reduced to one specification sheet. A customer may qualify Camtek because its throughput and optical sensitivity fit a packaging flow, retain Onto because of installed process-control infrastructure, and use KLA at the most mission-critical or front-end-sensitive steps. Large fabs deliberately multi-source where feasible to reduce dependency and benchmark yield.
This makes Camtek's ecological niche clear: it is a specialized technology supplier taking share of the packaging yield-control budget as packaging complexity increases. Its profit pool is most directly threatened by Onto and, over a longer horizon, by KLA moving down into the same applications with sufficient throughput and cost competitiveness. Local Chinese suppliers become more significant if industrial policy or export restrictions cause Chinese customers to prioritize domestic equipment.
The current fundamental acceleration should be measured against the last four quarters rather than viewed in isolation. Q3 2025 revenue was $126 million, Q4 $128.1 million, Q1 2026 $121.7 million and Q2 $133.2 million. The business first decelerated, then began climbing. Q1 revenue grew only about 3% year over year; Q2 rose 8%. The Q3 midpoint of $159 million would suddenly lift the growth slope far above either.
Q1 is useful because management had guided Q2 revenue to $129–131 million. Actual Q2 revenue of $133.2 million exceeded the high end by $2.2 million. More important, management raised its characterization of H2 from more than 25% growth versus H1 to more than 30%. The company's visibility therefore improved between May and August; the stronger outlook is not the same forecast repeated after one good quarter.
The order data provide the explanation. Camtek disclosed a $31 million multi-system order from a leading OSAT in March and more than $105 million of orders from a tier-one OSAT and a leading HBM manufacturer in June. These announced orders are only part of the more than $600 million YTD total.
More than 80% of YTD orders being advanced packaging means at least roughly $480 million of disclosed aggregate order intake is associated with that application family. More than half coming from OSATs means at least roughly $300 million of aggregate orders came from that customer class. Those are lower-bound calculations from company percentages, not separately reported contract totals.
This is strong evidence for the H2 step-change. It is weaker evidence for durability after 2027. A capacity-build order can be very large and still disappear for several quarters after installation. The key distinction is between replacement/recurring inspection demand and project-driven capacity additions. Camtek does not currently disclose enough detail to quantify that split.
A simple slip analysis shows the sensitivity. The minimum H2 target is roughly $331 million. Suppose, illustratively, that $33 million, about 10% of planned H2 revenue, slips from Q4 into Q1 2027 without cancellation. H2 growth versus H1 would fall from just over 30% to about 17%, and FY2026 revenue would fall from at least $586 million to roughly $553 million. If the lost quarter carried about a 52% incremental gross margin while operating expenses stayed fixed, a 30% quarterly operating-margin ambition could fall toward roughly 27–28%. This is an illustrative sensitivity, not a forecast. The underlying business would still be intact, but the stock could respond violently because the timing would undermine the current operating-leverage narrative.
The latest earnings quality is mixed in exactly this way. Q2 revenue and non-GAAP operating profit improved sequentially, but H1 GAAP operating income fell to $54.5 million from $64.7 million a year earlier as R&D and SG&A grew faster than revenue. H1 GAAP net income fell to $55.0 million from $68.0 million. Management is carrying costs for a ramp that had not yet shown up fully in H1 revenue.
Cash flow is the second test. Q1 operating cash flow was only $3.1 million and Q2 $12.2 million. Receivables reached $153.9 million by June 30. A company entering a major shipment ramp can reasonably consume working capital before collecting cash, but H2 must begin reversing that pattern. If Q3–Q4 revenue reaches management's target while cash conversion remains weak, the quality of the beat will be lower than the headline sales growth suggests.
The market is trading three linked claims: the AI packaging capex wave persists, Camtek converts its order book on schedule, and rising system volume lifts non-GAAP operating margin from 27% toward at least 30%. The first is an industry claim, the second an execution claim and the third an earnings-quality claim. Only the second two are under Camtek's direct control.
The stock's behavior confirms that expectations, rather than the latest reported earnings, dominate price formation. CAMT closed at a record $207.46 on May 11 before Q1 earnings. On May 12 it fell about 16% even though adjusted EPS and sales beat consensus and Q2 revenue guidance exceeded expectations. The market was already discounting a much larger acceleration.
The August reaction was different. Q2 results and guidance caused CAMT to gap to roughly $170 at the open, but it closed at $158.10, giving back most of the intraday enthusiasm. By August 25 it was at $146.66. The business outlook improved while the multiple contracted. That is exactly what can happen when a high-expectation semiconductor-equipment stock shifts from “anticipating the ramp” to “proving the ramp.”
The bull/bear dispute is therefore less about whether Q3 will be strong than about what Q3 and Q4 represent: a new revenue base or the crest of an unusually concentrated capacity-installation wave.
Valuation analysis
Camtek's headline trailing GAAP P/E is almost useless in 2026 because FY2025 GAAP earnings contain the convertible-note extinguishment loss. At $146.66, third-party market data show a headline trailing P/E above 200x, while a next-year consensus-based forward P/E is around 30x. The magnitude of that difference is a direct consequence of the GAAP distortion and fast expected growth.
A second adjustment is needed before using non-GAAP earnings. Camtek excludes stock compensation and acquisition items. The more telling figure: its five-year aggregate non-GAAP net income has exceeded operating cash generation.
From 2021 through 2025, operating cash flow totaled approximately $462.2 million. GAAP net income totaled about $388.0 million, producing a seemingly strong 1.19x OCF/GAAP-net ratio. But cumulative non-GAAP net income was about $555.2 million, so OCF was only about 0.83x non-GAAP earnings. The difference reflects growth working capital, stock compensation and other reconciling items.

That 0.83x ratio is more useful for valuation because non-GAAP earnings are the line investors usually capitalize. It says a dollar of adjusted earnings has historically produced closer to 83 cents of operating cash before maintenance capital expenditure.
Camtek does not disclose maintenance versus growth capex. FY2025 total capex was $22.5 million and management says it was used mainly to expand production capacity and support R&D, operations and IT. Based on net PP&E of only $59 million and the stated expansion purpose, I estimate normalized maintenance capex at roughly $8–12 million per year, with the remainder currently more growth-oriented. This split is an explicit analytical assumption rather than company disclosure.
Using 2025 OCF of $141.9 million and a $10 million midpoint maintenance estimate gives roughly $132 million of normalized 2025 owner earnings. Against the August 25 basic market capitalization of approximately $6.84 billion, that is an owner-earnings yield around 1.9%, equivalent to about 52x normalized 2025 owner earnings. The stock therefore requires substantial growth; the balance-sheet cash does not make the current price conventionally cheap.
For a forward view, non-GAAP EPS is still useful as a bridge. Q1 and Q2 adjusted EPS totaled $1.48. Q3's much higher revenue and the expected Q4 step-up should increase H2 EPS if margins scale. Current market estimates summarized by Finviz imply next-year EPS around $4.89, which puts the share price at about 30x next-year consensus earnings. I use that only as a market-expectation check, not as my owner-earnings valuation.
Historically, the center of gravity has clearly shifted. Camtek sold equity at $17 in late 2020; the business then doubled revenue, moved deeper into advanced packaging and acquired FRT. The stock's 2026 range from $75.75 to $215.99 shows that today's valuation regime carries a much larger AI and quality premium than Camtek had before 2023. Because a consistent primary-source forward-multiple time series is unavailable, I would describe the current valuation as in the upper historical regime rather than assign a false precision such as “82nd percentile.”
Peer valuation does not offer an obvious bargain signal. Onto and KLA also enjoy AI/process-control premiums, while Nova trades as a high-quality metrology franchise. Camtek deserves a higher multiple than an ordinary cyclical machinery vendor because advanced-packaging intensity is growing and the balance sheet is liquid. It deserves a discount to KLA's business quality because service recurring revenue is smaller, customer/application concentration is higher and margins are lower. The whole process-control group is already valued on elevated AI-capex expectations, so peer richness cannot validate CAMT's absolute price.
My absolute valuation therefore uses normalized owner earnings per diluted share. I treat the roughly 50.6 million diluted-share count indicated by Q2 earnings as economically more relevant than 46.7 million basic shares because the 2030 converts are in the money at the current stock price.

The revenue assumptions are my estimates, not company guidance beyond the disclosed 2026 H2/Q3 framework. The owner-earnings assumptions discount adjusted EPS for historic cash conversion and estimated maintenance capex.
The conservative case assumes a portion of the H2 order schedule slips and 2027 becomes a digestion year rather than a collapse. The base case assumes the current H2 ramp largely holds, HBM4 and 2.5D/3D additions extend into 2027 and operating leverage pulls margins upward, but owner-earnings conversion remains below reported non-GAAP income. The optimistic case requires the $750 million scale target to arrive quickly, Eagle G5/Hawk plus software to lift mix and no material AI-capex pause. Camtek's own longer-term model targets $750 million of revenue with 54–55% gross and 33–35% operating margins; my optimistic case is therefore close to management's strategic model rather than an unconstrained blue-sky case.

The expectation gap is concentrated in four quarterly data points: Q3 revenue, Q4 guidance, AP order intake and operating margin. A Q3 result near $159 million by itself will probably be insufficient for a positive surprise because management has already guided it. The market is more likely to reward evidence that Q4 can exceed roughly $172 million, that orders continue replenishing deliveries and that margins move toward 30% without another step-up in spending.
The most fragile base-case assumption is normalized cash conversion. H1 2026 operating cash generation was weak precisely while reported adjusted profit remained healthy. My base case effectively assumes cash conversion returns toward the historical 80%-plus zone. If that assumption is cut to 70% of its base level, normalized owner earnings per share would fall by roughly 30%, taking the midpoint base valuation from about $152 toward roughly $106 before any additional multiple compression. This sensitivity explains why cash flow matters more than another small adjusted-EPS beat.
The independent margin-of-safety test is harsher. The current $146.66 price sits about 22–36% above the conservative fair-value range of $108–120. The margin of safety versus the conservative case is therefore zero.
The flat-earnings test gives the same answer. If owner earnings remained flat for three years and the valuation multiple also stayed unchanged, the stock would generate approximately zero annual price return before any capital distributions. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield was around 4.66% on August 25, 2026. Under the discipline specified in this research framework, there is no margin of safety at this buy price.
This is closer to a good company at a full price than a bad company at a good one. Strong order visibility makes a severe fundamental collapse less likely in the next several quarters, but the current price already demands much of the transition from a $500 million to a $700-plus million revenue business.
Margin-of-safety sufficiency verdict: none.
Risks, catalysts, tracking dashboard, research uncertainties and cross-synthesis
The largest permanent-loss risk is an advanced-packaging capex digestion cycle. I assign medium probability and high impact. Roughly 75% of current revenue is tied to advanced packaging and about 55% of total revenue to HPC/AI. The observable indicator would be a sharp drop in quarterly AP orders, HBM/OSAT capacity announcements being delayed, or Camtek's order intake falling materially below shipments for multiple quarters. The transmission path is direct: fewer capacity additions reduce system shipments, fixed R&D/support costs prevent margins from adjusting quickly, and the market simultaneously lowers both earnings estimates and the earnings multiple.
The second risk is order timing and execution. Probability is medium; impact is medium to high. More than $600 million of orders creates visibility, but deliveries extend into 2027, and new systems require evaluation and qualification. A program slipping one quarter can have a disproportionate effect when Q4 must reach more than $172 million to satisfy management's current H2 framework. The observable indicators are Q3 deferred shipments, inventory rising faster than sales, or management changing “more than 30%” H2 growth language.
Third is China and export-control exposure. Probability of some further tightening is medium; impact on Camtek could be high because China was 49% of FY2025 revenue. Camtek explicitly acknowledges that U.S. rules can reduce Chinese semiconductor-equipment demand even where its products are not directly restricted, and China is promoting domestic equipment suppliers. The observable indicators are changes to U.S. equipment-control thresholds, Camtek's China sales mix and order announcements from Chinese customers. The transmission path can combine a revenue hit with a lower strategic valuation multiple because investors would assign less value to a market that may become inaccessible over time.
Fourth is margin disappointment. Probability is medium and impact medium. Q2 non-GAAP operating margin is 27%, and headcount and R&D have already moved up ahead of revenue. If Q4 revenue reaches the target but operating margin remains below 28%, the market would learn that the new growth requires more engineering/support expense than management's target model assumes. That would lower the normalized earnings power of every dollar of future revenue, even if top-line estimates were unchanged.
Fifth is valuation compression. Probability is medium and impact high. At roughly 30x next-year consensus EPS and a much higher multiple of present owner earnings, Camtek cannot absorb a large reduction in long-term growth expectations without a lower stock price. A move from a 35–38x owner-earnings multiple to 25x during a normal semiconductor digestion cycle could overwhelm several years of earnings growth.
The convertible capital structure is a smaller but real dilution risk. The $500 million 2030 notes were issued with an initial conversion price around $109.34, below the current stock price. The Q2 diluted share count is already several million shares above basic shares, so valuation should be performed on a diluted basis. A rising share price can therefore transfer additional upside to convertible holders. Probability of economic dilution is high if the stock remains above the conversion threshold; impact is medium rather than existential because Camtek has ample liquidity and can choose settlement mechanics subject to the indenture.
The positive catalysts are concrete. A Q3 print above the $160 million guidance ceiling with Q4 guidance materially above $172 million would validate order conversion. A non-GAAP operating margin near 30% would validate leverage. Continued AP orders after the current $600 million wave would show replenishment rather than backlog liquidation. Additional HBM4, hybrid-bonding or photonics qualifications could extend the growth curve. Visual Layer-generated software revenue would be especially valuable because it could lift recurring mix and gross margin, although no separately measurable contribution exists yet.
Negative catalysts are the mirror image: Q4 guidance below the arithmetic required by the H2 target, a sudden decline in AP orders, inventory and receivables continuing to rise after shipments accelerate, gross margin falling below 50%, or new export restrictions affecting Chinese demand. A major HBM or OSAT customer pushing a capacity tranche into 2027 could also hurt the stock before it hurts long-term intrinsic value.

Revenue and margin are obvious indicators. The less obvious pair is orders and cash flow. A healthy equipment ramp should eventually convert backlog into both revenue and cash while fresh bookings replenish the backlog. Revenue growth accompanied by a collapsing book-to-bill and poor cash collection is a very different investment outcome from revenue growth accompanied by fresh orders and improving operating cash flow.
There are four material research blind spots.
First, Camtek does not provide named-customer backlog or scheduled backlog by quarter. The $600 million figure therefore cannot establish cancellation risk or concentration within one AI program.
Second, the company does not disclose separate advanced-packaging revenue, gross margin and operating profit in audited segment accounts. The 75% mix comes from management presentations, so the exact profitability of the growth engine is not externally observable.
Third, independent market-share estimates for advanced-packaging optical inspection use inconsistent product definitions. I found enough competitor disclosure to establish Camtek as a genuine first-tier competitor, but not enough consistent primary data to state that it has, for example, precisely 30% or 40% market share. Any such precision would overstate the evidence.
Fourth, maintenance capex is not separately reported. My owner-earnings valuation therefore uses an $8–12 million normalized maintenance estimate. If the real maintenance requirement is materially higher, fair value should be lower.
The cross-synthesis starts with the vertical record. Camtek has proven that it can migrate from lower-value optical inspection into higher-value semiconductor process control without losing its core engineering identity. The 2017 PCB divestiture was the decisive strategic act. The company then took advantage of advanced packaging before AI became the dominant market narrative, expanded through FRT when the semiconductor cycle softened and converted Eagle G5/Hawk into a large part of revenue quickly. That is evidence of management and engineering capability rather than pure luck.
The era helped enormously. Revenue doubling between 2020 and 2022 occurred during an exceptional semiconductor equipment cycle. The 2024–26 acceleration coincides with an exceptional AI infrastructure cycle. Camtek's achievement is that it placed itself exactly where those tailwinds intensified inspection requirements. Investors should therefore attribute the historical result to a mix of structural positioning and cycle, rather than choosing one explanation.
Those success factors are still present. HBM4 uses more complex stacking; 2.5D/3D packages contain more heterogeneous components; foundries and OSATs are increasing advanced-packaging capacity; TSMC still describes AI demand as robust; Micron is already producing HBM4. Camtek has current-generation tools shipping into those applications.
The difference now is valuation and concentration. Five years ago an investor could buy a smaller Camtek before advanced packaging dominated the business. Today the market understands the story. At $146.66, the stock has fallen materially from its May record, but it is still priced around 30x next-year consensus earnings and roughly 52x normalized 2025 owner earnings by my calculation. A 29% drawdown from a euphoric high does not itself create cheapness.
Horizontally, Camtek's advantage is speed and focus within a narrower niche. KLA owns the stronger overall process-control franchise; Onto currently shows superior gross and operating margins; Nova is more deeply rooted in front-end metrology. Camtek's investment proposition therefore cannot rest on “best semiconductor-equipment company.” It rests on being unusually exposed to the fastest-growing inspection-intensity niche.
That makes the weakness structural in one respect and temporary in another. Lower scale than KLA is structural. Lower Q2 operating margin could be temporary if the H2 revenue ramp absorbs the R&D and support base. High advanced-packaging concentration is structural unless Camtek develops meaningful adjacent businesses. The current poor H1 cash conversion may be temporary working capital; if it persists into a record H2, it becomes an earnings-quality problem.
The market may be underestimating the degree of near-term order visibility. More than $600 million of orders against a business that generated $496 million of revenue last year is large, and deliveries extending into 2027 make a complete near-term demand collapse unlikely. The disclosed mix across OSATs, HBM manufacturers, foundries and IDMs also argues against the entire increase being one named customer.
At the same time, the market may be overestimating how much visibility equals recurrence. Capacity orders are not subscriptions. A $100 million order this year can create excellent revenue visibility and leave a difficult comparison next year. The 2027 variable that matters is therefore new order intake after current deliveries, not merely backlog conversion.
For the next twelve months, Q4 revenue and operating margin dominate. Revenue above roughly $172 million, non-GAAP operating margin at or above 30% and continued bookings would turn the current step-change from a promise into evidence. Failure on one of the three would be tolerable; failure on all three would invalidate much of the present thesis.
For three years, the decisive variable is whether advanced packaging grows through multiple generations rather than one capacity burst. Hawk must remain relevant through HBM4 and subsequent packaging nodes; software and Visual Layer must improve classification economics; Camtek must preserve customer share against Onto and KLA. If revenue approaches or exceeds $750 million with gross margin in the mid-50s, today's valuation can be justified by earnings growth.
For five years, the question changes again. The durable company should earn money from process-control intelligence, service and metrology across successive package architectures, rather than simply selling more optical tools into one AI build-out. A rising software/service component would reduce cyclicality and support a structurally higher multiple. If product revenue remains above 90% and every growth wave depends on another capacity project, the company should retain a semiconductor-equipment-cycle valuation no matter how exciting the end market becomes.
Core bull reasons
- More than $600 million of 2026 YTD orders, with 80% tied to advanced packaging and deliveries extending into 2027, give Camtek substantially better forward visibility than its modest H1 growth rate suggests.
- Eagle G5 and Hawk already represent about half of quarterly revenue, showing commercial adoption of the systems designed for the HBM/chiplet generation rather than merely a development roadmap.
- External customers' industry signals support the demand thesis: TSMC continues expanding advanced packaging for AI and Micron entered HBM4 production in 2026.
- Camtek has $815.8 million of liquid assets against $488.5 million of convertible debt, giving it real capacity to absorb a cycle downturn or invest through it.
Core bear reasons
- Approximately 75% of current revenue comes from advanced packaging, creating application-level concentration even though the largest FY2025 customer was only 11% of sales.
- China generated 49% of FY2025 revenue, exposing Camtek simultaneously to export controls, local-equipment substitution and geopolitical policy changes.
- H1 2026 operating cash flow was only about $15 million against $74.7 million of non-GAAP net income, so the current growth ramp has not yet proved its cash quality.
- At $146.66, CAMT trades near my base fair-value range rather than below the conservative value, leaving no conservative-case margin of safety despite the stock's decline from its May high.
The pre-mortem has two plausible scripts.
In the first, HBM and 2.5D/3D capacity additions peak in 2027 after the 2026 installation wave. Major OSATs digest equipment for two or three quarters, Camtek's AP orders fall 30–40% from the current run rate and 2028 revenue stalls around $600–625 million rather than pushing toward $800 million. Fixed engineering costs and price concessions pull gross margin toward 47–48% and operating margin into the low 20s. Investors stop valuing the company at a mid-30s owner-earnings multiple and use 20–25x on roughly $3 of normalized owner earnings. The resulting $60–75 stock would be about 50–60% below today's price even though Camtek remained profitable and solvent.
In the second, Onto wins incremental qualifications at two large OSAT/HBM programs during the 2027–28 generation change while Chinese customers increasingly choose local inspection suppliers under industrial-policy and export-control pressure. Camtek responds with 10–15% price concessions on contested systems. Gross margin falls from about 51–52% toward 45–47%; operating margin settles around 20–22% rather than management's 33–35% scale model. A 20x owner-earnings multiple on roughly $3 per share again points near $60. This scenario is speculative, but the competitive names, geographic exposure and margin transmission path are real.
The upside script is equally concrete. Camtek converts the current backlog, finishes 2026 near or above $600 million, grows again at a high-teens or better rate in 2027, and maintains fresh bookings as HBM4, larger CoWoS-like packages, chiplets and hybrid bonding increase inspection intensity. Gross margin approaches the mid-50s while operating margin moves above 30%. Normalized owner earnings could exceed $5 per diluted share; a high-30s multiple then supports a value near $190–205.
The investment question at $146.66 is therefore narrower than the business question. I think Camtek is a good semiconductor-equipment company that has made a successful strategic migration and currently possesses unusually strong order visibility. I also think the stock price already capitalizes a large part of the next earnings step. The conservative case provides no margin of safety, while the base case produces only modest expected return unless 2027 growth holds up.
For an existing holder with a multi-year horizon, selling a proven growth franchise solely because it trades near fair value is difficult to justify while orders and margins are still inflecting. For new capital, the asymmetric point is weaker: a miss can reset both estimates and the multiple, whereas a clean Q3 largely delivers what management has already promised. A substantially better entry price, or proof that the current backlog is being replenished into 2027 at a higher normalized margin, would improve the equation.
