Three points support this view: revenue was €628.4m in 2025, but P/E is about 225x and EV/EBITDA about 106x, equivalent to more than 200x conservative owner earnings. Revenue, margins, and free cash flow all show clear cyclicality, while the top five customers account for 83.4% of receivables. The report estimates conservative intrinsic value at only €5-€8, optimistic value at €18-€24, and an ideal buying range of €7-€10. The current price of about €34.68 offers no margin of safety. The main risk is that the market mistakes the AI/HBM boom for a normal baseline and valuation reverts.

Conclusion First

The investment rating for Technoprobe is Watch, and the core reason is there is no margin of safety at the current price. This is better suited to growth-oriented or sector-focused investors who deeply understand the semiconductor testing cycle and can tolerate drawdowns from high valuation levels. It is less suitable for ordinary long-term value investors with a balanced but conservative risk profile. The largest uncertainties are concentrated in three areas: the durability of AI/HBM testing demand; whether high margins in 2026-2027 can be sustained after capacity expansion; and whether the market is mistaking a cyclical boom for permanent high growth.

If Technoprobe were viewed as a business one might acquire outright for the long term, my conclusion would be: this is a business I can understand, and its quality is not poor, but at the current price it does not meet the buy discipline of conservative value investing. The company focuses on probe cards and test interfaces. Its technical barriers are real, its balance sheet is extremely strong, and it maintained substantial net cash at both year-end 2025 and in Q1 2026. But the current equity market capitalization of roughly €22bn is far ahead of the owner earnings the company has already delivered. According to the Euronext snapshot, TPRO trades on Euronext Milan and had a market capitalization of about €21.99bn on 2026-06-03. An earlier Borsa Italiana snapshot showed a reference price of €34.68, corresponding to a market capitalization of about €22.65bn. In this report, I use about €22.0bn in market capitalization and Q1 2026 net cash of €660.5m for valuation.

Put more directly: the business is worth tracking; the price is not worth chasing. In 2025, revenue was €628.4m, EBITDA was €201.4m, and earnings per share attributable to shareholders were only around €0.15. Even if the company raises its 2026 revenue target to €950m-€1,050m with an EBITDA margin of 44%–46%, the current valuation still implies an extremely optimistic high-growth path that must last for many years. For an investor with a "balanced but conservative" risk preference and a holding period of more than 10 years, I would rather keep it on the watchlist and wait for a better price than buy now.

One-line preliminary view: good company, expensive price; worth studying, not worth impulsively buying.

Business, Industry, and Competitive Landscape

Technoprobe's core business is not difficult to understand: it designs, develops, and manufactures probe cards used for electrical testing of chips at the wafer stage. With the 2024 acquisition of DIS Tech, it also extended into final-test interfaces such as Device Interface Boards. The company repeatedly emphasizes that probe cards are chip-specific customized "consumables". The lifecycle of each probe card is tied to a specific chip and usually cannot be reused. That means whenever customers have a new design, new process, or new package, they often need a new test interface. In its March 2025 presentation, the company positioned itself as a "leader in logic chip testing probe cards" and emphasized vertically integrated manufacturing, localized global service, and expansion from front-end testing to back-end test interfaces.

Who are the customers? In substance, they are large global foundries, IDMs, OSATs, fabless chip design companies, and their testing ecosystems. The company's revenue mainly comes from two categories: first, one-off/project-based shipments of customized probe cards; second, related maintenance, supporting interfaces, and subsequent introductions. It is neither a typical SaaS model nor a consumer-products repurchase model. Revenue will not be as smooth as subscription software, but because chip iterations and testing intensity are rising, it is also not a pure one-time transaction. The defining feature of this revenue structure is: long-term demand is technology-driven, but short-term results still fluctuate sharply with semiconductor capital spending, customer product cycles, and test-platform transitions. FormFactor also describes probe cards in its 2025 10-K as highly customized, short-lead-time, technology-intensive, and competitive products, with key competitive dimensions including precision, lifetime, signal integrity, customer service, and delivery speed.

The "hard part" of this business is customer concentration. Technoprobe's 2025 annual report disclosed that the top five customers accounted for 83.4% of trade receivables, compared with 77.2% in 2024. The earlier 2021 annual report disclosed that three customers contributed 25.5%, 18.3%, and 11.7% of revenue, respectively. This shows that although the company's technical threshold is not low, its dependence on a small number of leading customers is meaningful. For a long-term owner, this kind of concentration means you are not holding a diversified, even, low-volatility business model. You are holding a specialized equipment/consumables supplier that is highly exposed to customer product roadmaps and capacity timing.

The industry itself looks more like a "cyclical industry with growth" than a pure growth industry. In its March 2026 presentation, the company cited Yole data stating that the global semiconductor probe-card market grew from about $1.783bn in 2019 to about $2.443bn in 2024, and is expected to reach about $3.133bn by 2028, implying mid-single-digit to mid-high-single-digit growth. Logic probe cards are the company's main reference market. The company also cited Yole data stating that it had about 34% share of the 2024 logic probe-card market and about 60% share of the MEMS logic probe-card submarket. But it is important to stress that these industry and market-share data come from third-party research cited in company presentations, and the company itself explicitly states in its Q1 2026 presentation that it has not independently verified third-party industry data. The share conclusions are useful references, but they should not be treated as absolute facts.

The main public comparables include FormFactor and Micronics Japan, which hold important positions in logic/foundry and memory probe cards, respectively. FormFactor generated $785.0m in revenue in fiscal 2025, including $637.9m from Probe Cards, $369.9m from Foundry & Logic, and $247.4m from DRAM. Micronics Japan says in its medium-term plan that its DRAM probe card has an "overwhelming global No. 1" market share, and that it had 12% share of the overall probe-card industry in 2022. This shows that the industry profit pool is not extremely fragmented, but it is also not a winner-take-all oligopoly. Technoprobe is more like a strong participant in a good industry than an irreplaceable sole platform.

If the stock market were closed for the next five years, I would be willing to hold this business at the right price, because it serves real industrial demand, has meaningful technical barriers, and remained profitable with net cash even when demand weakened sharply in 2023. But at the current price, I would not be comfortable treating it as a "hold for five years with eyes closed" asset, because the valuation requires too much durability from the upcycle. I rate understandability at 4/5 and industry attractiveness at 3/5.

Moat, Management, and Capital Allocation

Technoprobe's moat exists, but it is not an impregnable wide moat. The most important factor is not brand, but technical capability, customer qualification, vertically integrated manufacturing, and local service networks. FormFactor explicitly writes that MEMS probe cards require high capital investment and long customer evaluation cycles, both of which create meaningful entry barriers. Technoprobe emphasizes in-house manufacturing, co-development, vertical integration of high-value-added components, and global localization. In other words, this industry's barriers are more like "engineering barriers + qualification barriers + relationship barriers" than "consumer brand barriers."

Scoring each item: brand advantage is moderate, mainly reflected in technical credibility with leading customers; cost advantage is moderate to weak, because these are highly customized, low-volume products where orders are often decided by yield, lifetime, on-time delivery, and design-in capability rather than the lowest cost; scale advantage is moderate, as Technoprobe has scale in logic probe cards and the MEMS logic submarket, but has not built the kind of overwhelming marginal-cost advantage seen in software platforms; network effects are basically absent; switching costs are moderate to high, arising from customer qualification, chip-specific customization, and production-ramp risk; channel and local-service advantages are moderate to high, because global front-line support is very important for large customers; patents and know-how are valuable, but they are more helpful in maintaining technical leadership than in blocking all competition; data advantage is limited; and organizational and operational capability is relatively strong, especially around process and delivery capabilities formed by the rising complexity of advanced logic/AI/HBM testing.

My overall moat score is 3/5. It is broadly stable, and in the past two years it may even have widened in the AI/HBM testing wave, but this looks more like "engineering leadership in a favorable cycle" than a monopoly-style moat sustainable for decades. Competitors do not need to replicate a social network to copy it. They need to replicate customer relationships, yield, MEMS / PCB / interface processes, global support, and qualification time. That process cannot be completed in one or two years, but it is also not impossible. For mature competitors, the cost is high and the cycle is long. For end customers, the most realistic risk is not sudden disruption by a start-up, but leading customers shifting more volumes, different platforms, or new packaging routes to existing competitors.

In an inflationary environment, the company has some pricing power for high-end, complex, time-critical probe cards, but that pricing power is not as firm as in luxury goods or software subscriptions. It is ultimately constrained by the bargaining power of large customers and industry conditions. The good news is that during the 2023 industry downturn, the company still generated €409.3m in revenue, €79.8m in EBIT, and €97.4m in net profit, while maintaining €350.8m in net cash. This shows the business is not a fragile model that immediately bleeds cash in a recession. The bad news is that in 2024, as DIS Tech was consolidated, gross margin fell from 48.7% to 41.1%, and EBIT margin fell from 19.5% to 12.4%, showing that high margins are not completely insulated from business mix. By 2025, margins had recovered, suggesting that recent margins contain both structural capability and cyclical/mix benefits.

On management, the strengths are clear: family control, deep ownership, net-cash operations, and a relatively strong long-term orientation. The company's website and 2026 company presentation show that Technoprobe has 653,260,870 shares outstanding, with the Crippa family holding about 63.0% under the presentation methodology. The Euronext page discloses that T-Plus alone holds about 57.96%. Teradyne holds about 10%. This structure broadly aligns management and controlling shareholders with long-term shareholders, rather than a pure professional-manager short-term evaluation model. The company had 9 board members in 2024, of whom 5 were independent directors. PwC is the auditor, and the term runs through 2031.

On capital allocation, I give it 3/5, with the assessment "generally rational, but not yet excellent." On the positive side, the 2023 acquisition of Harbor, 2024 acquisition of DIS Tech, 2025 purchase of the remaining minority stake in Yee Wei, and investment in Innostar all follow the logic of vertical integration and capability strengthening along the testing value chain. In 2025, the company also explicitly paid no dividend to support growth, and pulled its 2027 medium-term target forward to 2026, showing that management prioritizes reinvestment and capacity expansion. On the negative side, buyback discipline deserves a question mark: the 2023 repurchase of 1.5 million shares at an average price of about €7.845 was not a major issue. But in 2025, repurchases had expanded to €60m, and in 2026 the board requested authorization to repurchase treasury shares up to €250m. Against a backdrop of extremely high valuation, continued large buybacks could damage intrinsic value per share.

On equity incentives, the old 2024-2026 Restricted Shares Plan totaled about 838,604 shares, equal to roughly 0.13% of share capital, so dilution was not large. But the newly approved Special Award Plan in 2026 is estimated to allocate up to 5,000,000 shares, about 0.76% of share capital. Although the document says delivery will be made with treasury shares and will not dilute registered share capital, it is still a real economic cost. Based on the March 2026 share price used in the document, the maximum expense is about €81.75m. This is not a fatal issue, but it reminds investors that management incentives are scaling up and should be tracked continuously for size and whether performance conditions are truly linked to per-share value.

Financial Quality and Owner Earnings

Start with five-year data. Revenue, profit, operating cash flow, capital expenditure, net cash, and ROE/ROI in the table below all come from the company's 2021-2025 annual reports. Free cash flow is calculated by deducting capital expenditure under the company's definition, namely cash investment in PP&E plus intangible assets and excluding right-of-use assets, from operating cash flow.

This data says three things. First, the company is not a linear growth stock, but a high-volatility technology cyclical. Revenue surged to €548.9m in 2022, then fell back to €409.3m in 2023. It recovered in 2024 and reached a new high in 2025. Second, margin elasticity is very large: EBIT margin was close to 38% in 2022, only 12.4% in 2024, and then recovered to 21.7% in 2025. Third, cash-flow quality is not poor, but it is unstable. Free cash flow was slightly negative in 2023 and returned to about €100m in 2025. This looks more like a semiconductor testing supplier sensitive to the cycle, heavy in project introductions, and subject to cash swings from capacity expansion than a consumer or software company that smoothly generates cash every year.

Looking only at "accounting profit vs cash profit," my judgment is: there are no obvious signs of fraud or aggressive accounting, but earnings quality is significantly affected by tax items, FX, and working-capital volatility. In 2023, net profit was €97.4m, but operating cash flow was only €61.8m, free cash flow was negative, and profit that year was helped by a €12.1m income-tax benefit. In 2025, the opposite occurred: FX losses dragged on profit, while operating cash flow approached €199.0m and free cash flow was about €100m. In other words, the company's profit is not all "paper wealth," but it needs to be assessed across a full cycle rather than by one year alone. PwC as auditor also reduces basic concerns about accounting credibility.

The balance sheet is excellent. The company had €684.2m in net cash at year-end 2025 and still had €660.5m in positive net cash in Q1 2026. At year-end 2025, the current ratio was 7.23 and the quick ratio was 6.30. Therefore, financial leverage risk is very low. Net debt/EBITDA is in fact significantly negative, and interest coverage is not an issue. Even in a weak cycle, the company has sufficient survivability. This is a very important safety cushion relative to many semiconductor equipment companies.

On working capital, pressure was relatively high in 2023-2024 and improved in 2025. The annual report shows that inventory rose from €110.4m in 2022 to €136.8m in 2024, then fell to €125.3m in 2025. Trade receivables rose from €67.8m in 2023 to €118.8m in 2024 and continued to €119.9m in 2025. Trade payables rose from €40.9m in 2022 to €66.8m in 2025. Overall, net working capital fell from €187.7m to €145.1m in 2025, which was more cash-friendly. I do not see extreme abnormalities typical of "beautifying profit by stretching payables or manufacturing receivables," but customer concentration is high. If individual large customers extend payment terms or delay projects in the future, cash flow will be relatively sensitive.

The change in share count cannot be ignored. Weighted average ordinary shares rose from 576.0m in 2021 to 645.2m in 2025. Current issued shares are 653.26m. This means that over the past few years, through the IPO, transaction consideration, and treasury-share operations, the total share count has increased. Although there has been no exaggerated dilution, a "per-share value" perspective requires us to acknowledge that this is not a company with a continuously shrinking share count.

Using a Buffett-style "owner earnings" approach, my conservative estimate for Technoprobe is as follows: 2025 net profit attributable to shareholders was about €97.7m; adding back depreciation and amortization, approximated by EBITDA minus EBIT, gives about €65.2m; then deduct capital expenditure closer to maintenance rather than expansion. In its March 2026 presentation, the company said the medium-term capital markets day target is capital expenditure at 8%–10% of revenue, while the actual 16% in 2025 reflected accelerated capacity expansion, and around €240m still needs to be invested in 2026E-Q1 2027. Therefore, I conservatively estimate maintenance capital expenditure at about €55m-€60m, while not treating the 2025 working-capital improvement as a fully sustainable cash source. On that basis, 2025 conservative owner earnings were about €95m-€110m. This is close to the roughly €100m in 2025 free cash flow, which shows the estimate is not aggressive.

This point is crucial: at today's roughly €22bn market capitalization, the current purchase price is approximately 200x-230x conservative owner earnings. This is not a "cheap cyclical stock," nor a "quality growth stock at a reasonable price." It looks more like "the market pricing today on many years of ideal future conditions."

Intrinsic Value, Relative Valuation, and Margin of Safety

Start with the current valuation. Based on about €22.0bn in market capitalization, year-end 2025 net cash of €684.2m, and Q1 2026 net cash of €660.5m, Technoprobe's enterprise value is roughly €21.3bn. Using 2025 results, P/E is about 225x, P/S about 35x, EV/EBITDA about 106x, P/B about 17.7x, and P/FCF about 220x. Even if one directly applies the midpoint of the company's latest 2026 target, namely revenue of €1.0bn and an EBITDA margin of 45%, forward EV/EBITDA is still about 47x. These multiples are not "slightly expensive." They are extremely expensive.

Below are three valuation methods.

Method one: owner-earnings DCF. I do not directly extrapolate from 2025 single-year owner earnings, because AI/HBM demand is significantly stronger in 2026. But I also do not accept the 2026 guidance wholesale. My assumptions are:

These models all additionally include net cash value and assume capital expenditure falls after capacity expansion is completed and that AI demand does not collapse. Even in the bull case, the resulting per-share value is still significantly below the current market price of about €33.66-€34.68. In other words, the market price requires you to believe that the company's future "normalized owner earnings" will be far above €320m, and that high growth will last for quite a long time. For a conservative investor, that premise is too aggressive. The hard basis for these input assumptions is the company's 2025 results, Q1 2026 results, 2026 revenue/margin targets, and capex path. The valuation outputs in the table are my DCF calculations based on those inputs.

Method two: relative valuation. As a reference, Micronics Japan's public quote pages show a current market capitalization roughly in the ¥556.7bn-¥580.4bn range, a trailing P/E of about 38x-46x, and P/S of about 7.93x. FormFactor generated $785.0m in revenue in fiscal 2025 and $30.7m in free cash flow in Q1 2026, and directly lists Technoprobe, Micronics Japan, JEM, and others as core competitors in its 10-K. Even without forcing in a real-time market capitalization number for FormFactor that I did not obtain in this round of checks, simply comparing Technoprobe's 35x P/S, 225x P/E, and 106x EV/EBITDA with Micronics' publicly displayed 7.9x P/S and 38x-46x P/E already makes TPRO's high valuation very clear. The fact that peers are also not cheap does not make TPRO cheap.

Method three: asset/liquidation value. At year-end 2025, the company had shareholders' equity of €1.242bn, including €684.2m in net cash, €308.0m in PPE, €125.3m in inventory, and €119.9m in receivables. Goodwill and intangible assets totaled about €103.9m. In rough terms, tangible net assets were around €1.1bn. Compared with the approximately €22bn equity market capitalization, the current price is built almost entirely on future earnings power rather than existing assets. For a value investor, this means: if growth expectations fall, the balance sheet can help the company survive, but it cannot provide enough downside support for the current share price.

Combining the three methods, I arrive at the following ranges:

These ranges reflect a combined judgment from DCF, asset value, and sensitivity to 2026 guidance. At the current price of about €33.66-€34.68/share, the market price is roughly about 40% above the upper end of my bull-case range, and far above the base value. My conclusion is very clear: there is no margin of safety at the current price.

Risks, Counterarguments, and Opportunity Cost

The most important risk is not share-price volatility, but permanent capital loss. For TPRO, the most realistic path to permanent loss is: AI/HBM testing demand slows significantly in 2026-2027, while the market quickly compresses today's "super-growth-stock multiple" back to a more normal semiconductor equipment/consumables multiple. This is not fantasy. In its March 2026 presentation, the company itself identifies AI, HPC, and advanced memory as future market drivers, while also noting that geopolitics, export controls, and supply-chain regionalization are changing product roadmaps. The 2025 annual report and Q1 2026 presentation also show that profit is sensitive to FX swings. In 2025, profit before tax included €45.9m of FX losses, and Q1 2026 disclosed another €20m negative FX impact.

Against the risk framework you requested, I believe the most important items are: competitive risk, customer-concentration risk, technology substitution/roadmap-switching risk, overvaluation risk, cyclical risk, FX risk, and supply-chain and policy risk. On competition, FormFactor clearly says industry competition will intensify, and core competitive factors in probe cards include design success rate as well as price, lifetime, signal integrity, and delivery time. On customer concentration, Technoprobe's top five customers account for a very high share of receivables, and in 2021 three customers each exceeded 10% of revenue. On policy, China-related projects require Golden Power and Chinese regulatory approvals, and geopolitics and export controls can both change product roadmaps.

The strongest counterargument is simple: the market is treating an excellent but highly cyclical semiconductor testing consumables company as a platform-style growth asset capable of sustaining ultra-high growth and ultra-high multiples for a long time. If the 2026 target is delivered, bulls will say "the expensive valuation is justified." But from a long-term owner's perspective, what truly matters is whether performance can persist after delivery. If 2026 is only the peak of a major AI infrastructure capacity buildout, buying now means betting simultaneously on peak conditions and peak multiples. Once conditions normalize, even if the company remains a good company, investment returns may be poor. This is exactly where the classic "good company, bad price" problem appears.

What facts would overturn my current cautious view? There are three main categories. First, AI/HBM-related demand in 2026-2028 is not only strong, but proves durable, rather than a short-term hyperscaler sprint. Second, after capacity expansion ends, capital expenditure really falls back to 8%–10% of sales instead of remaining capital-intensive for the long term. Third, the company can turn 2026's high profitability into normalized owner earnings, for example sustaining above €300m, rather than delivering a one-year peak. If these facts continue to be validated, my current "Watch" rating may look too conservative. Conversely, if the company misses 2026 guidance, gross margin falls, cash conversion remains poor after expansion, or important customers shift more orders to competitors, I would be more convinced that the current price is overvalued. The earlier view that "the market may be over-extrapolating a strong cycle" is my judgmental inference based on the company's target upgrade, capital expenditure, and current valuation.

Compared with other opportunities, I do not think TPRO at the current price is clearly superior to broad equity indices. The eurozone ECB deposit facility rate was 2.00% on 2026-06-03, which is a very low risk-free hurdle. Yet based on my scenario analysis at TPRO's current price, conservative ten-year annualized returns are likely negative, the base case is roughly low-single-digit, and even the bull case may not be enough to compensate for the risk of a single highly valued semiconductor equipment stock. At the same time, S&P Dow Jones's SPIVA research has long emphasized that it is difficult for active management to consistently beat broad indices. This means single-stock investing should require expected excess returns clearly above the index, rather than "maybe acceptable." At the current price, I do not see enough risk compensation.

If I could hold only five assets, I do not think TPRO currently qualifies for the portfolio. This is not because the business is poor, but because the odds are not good enough. Capital deserves long-term commitment only when both the business quality and the purchase price leave room for error.

Based on the Yole figures cited in the report, the global probe-card TAM grew from about $1.783bn in 2019 to about $2.443bn in 2024, and is expected to reach about $3.133bn in 2028. This is a "growth-cyclical" industry growing at a mid-single-digit to mid/high-single-digit rate. For a company with a current market cap of about €22bn, the question is not whether this pie is growing, but that its absolute ceiling is too low, which structurally constrains the Baillie Gifford-style "5x in 10 years" upside case.

    First, clarify the absolute scale. This is a consumables market with a total global size of only about $2.4bn in 2024, and expected to be only about $3.1bn by 2028. Even including third-party estimates, other market-size figures found in this search range from about $1.2bn–$3.5bn in 2024 and about $1.6bn in 2028E to nearly $3.7bn. None of these estimates lifts this TAM into the category of a large market. Put differently, the entire global probe-card industry's annual revenue is less than 1/6 of Technoprobe's current market capitalization. The report's own figures confirm this scale: Technoprobe's 2025 revenue was €628.4m, already a material share of this global TAM.

    Next, is this a new market? Clearly not. The report repeatedly emphasizes that probe cards are "customized consumables for specific chips," the interface used for electrical testing at the wafer stage. This process has existed in semiconductor manufacturing for decades. Technoprobe is increasing its share within an existing consumables market and extending along the test value chain into back-end interfaces (DIS Tech's Device Interface Boards), not opening demand that did not previously exist. It is a classic semiconductor-test "picks and shovels" supplier, benefiting from others' capacity expansion, process iteration, and new packaging that raise test intensity, rather than creating a new end-demand curve.

    How much can Technoprobe itself address? The report cites Yole (as presented by the company, while the company explicitly states in its Q1 presentation that it has not independently verified third-party industry data) saying that its 2024 share was about 34% in logic probe cards and about 60% in the MEMS logic submarket. This creates precisely the kind of tension that is unfavorable for a growth stock: the share is already high, meaning there is relatively limited upside from taking more share. A company that already has roughly three-tenths of the main battlefield and six-tenths of a submarket must rely more on "the whole pie getting bigger" than on "cutting itself a larger slice." And by Yole's numbers, the whole pie is growing only at a mid-single-digit to mid/high-single-digit rate. High share, a small market, and moderate industry growth together make the hard ceiling very clear.

    AI/HBM/advanced packaging are real but incremental, not disruptive, drivers within this pie. They do raise test intensity: HBM's stacked architecture, advanced nodes, and advanced packaging all require more complex probe cards with higher signal integrity. The report also lists AI, HPC, and advanced memory as future drivers. Market research echoes this point. AI chips and HBM are widely viewed as core drivers for next-generation probe cards; about 53% of chipmakers are increasing investment in MEMS/vertical probe cards to support sub-10nm high-throughput testing, and optimistic estimates for the specific "advanced-packaging probe-card" subsegment even put it at about $2.5bn in 2025 and above $6bn in 2033 (CAGR about 15%). The key point, however, is that these increments still occur within the same existing pie. They can lift industry growth from dull to mid/high single digits and improve the profit structure, but they do not create a new market out of thin air. Even under the most optimistic subsegment estimate, the whole pool would only be around $6bn by 2033, still insufficient to support asymmetric upside for a company already worth about €22bn (live about $23.9bn).

    Returning to Baillie Gifford's "market ceiling" question, the honest conclusion is this: Technoprobe is expanding a small existing pie, not creating a new market. A global probe-card TAM of less than $3.5 billion-level and only about $3.1bn in 2028E is, in absolute size, hard to reconcile with the "5x in 10 years" narrative required for LTGG. For the case to work, one must assume that AI/HBM materially and durably lifts the medium- and long-term growth rate and unit prices of this market, while Technoprobe sustains its share and margin advantages for a long time. That is a demanding premise and a heavy bet on cyclical durability. On the dimension of "how high is the market ceiling," this is a clearly weak part of Technoprobe under the Baillie framework: the foundation is not large enough to support a building five times as high.

    Bottom line: yes, but "almost doubling in 2026" and "sustainably doubling over the next five years" are two different things. Looking only at 2026, the company has raised revenue guidance to €950m–€1,050m. Against €628.4m in 2025, the €1.0bn midpoint is about +59%, and the high end approaches a doubling. This reflects the AI/HBM test-demand surge bringing forward the original 2027 targets (revenue of €850m–€900m) into 2026 (the company has brought its 2027 targets forward to 2026). But a "five-year" doubling from the 2025 base to about €1.26bn by around 2030 is a higher bar that must survive a semiconductor cycle. It should not be linearly extrapolated from the slope of 2026 alone.

    In terms of growth structure, this doubling is driven mainly by "volume," with "price" secondary, and "new business" acting as an amplifier rather than the core engine. Volume is the overwhelming driver: the report says the company frames future drivers as AI, HPC, and advanced memory, and the guidance upgrade is directly pulled by data-center/AI mass production. In essence, both the unit count and test intensity of AI chips and HBM are rising together. Price is a structural tailwind: probe cards are "custom consumables tied to specific chips and almost impossible to reuse." This is also the source of the gross-margin recovery from 41.1% in 2024 to 44.4% in 2025, and of 2026 guidance for an EBITDA margin of 44%–46%. New businesses (Device Interface Boards/back-end test interfaces from the 2024 DIS Tech acquisition, Yee Wei, Innostar, and others) strengthen vertical integration along the test value chain and expand the addressable market, but they are not currently the core variable behind the revenue doubling.

    Cyclicality is the real risk in this question, and it must be faced directly. The report's five-year revenue series is 391.7→548.9→409.3→543.2→628.4 (€m): from 2022 to 2023, revenue fell directly from €548.9m to €409.3m, a drop of about 25%, while the EBIT margin fell from about 38% to 19.5%. This shows that Technoprobe is a "growth-cyclical" company, not a linear compounding machine. Customer concentration is also high (the top five customers account for 83.4% of receivables). So a "five-year doubling" is not a smooth upward line. It requires AI compute capacity expansion not to be a one-off sprint, and requires the company to convert 2026's high-margin capability into a normal state. Treating it as a "locked-in" linear-growth path would be dangerous. If 2026–2027 proves to be the cycle peak, revenue could absolutely turn down as it did in 2023, delaying or even invalidating the five-year doubling story. It must be stressed that even if revenue doubles, that does not automatically change the report's Watch rating. At the current price of about €34.68/share and market cap of about €22.0bn, corresponding to a P/E of about 225x and EV/EBITDA of about 106x, the price already fully and prematurely capitalizes "many years of sustained high growth." Delivering the doubling is a question of whether the company is "expensive for a reason," not whether a margin of safety has appeared.

  • After five years, what will take over as the next growth engine? Does this "second curve" exist today?3/10

    Bottom line: Technoprobe does not yet have a true second curve that can be called a handoff engine today. What it has is a set of early options along the test value chain, not a second leg independent of wafer probe cards that could carry growth after the core business peaks. At this stage, the so-called "second curves" (DIS Tech's final-test interface boards/DIBs, China TPEG localization, AI/HBM upgrades, and the Harbor/Yee Wei/Innostar acquisitions) are almost all still in the state of "deepening the first curve" or "future option." The largest of them (DIS) is currently dilutive to the group rather than lifting profitability. Baillie Gifford is looking for a new engine that can take over in years 3–10 and carry the company toward a "5x in 10 years" outcome. By that standard, Technoprobe is offering something closer to "selling the same business one step further down the value chain" than "opening a second business." The candidates break down as follows.

    Candidate one: final-test interface boards/DIBs brought by DIS Tech (extending from front-end wafer probe cards into the back end). This is the only candidate among the four with meaningful revenue, but it is "vertical integration," not an "independent second curve," and today it dilutes rather than accretes. The report states this directly: the May 2024 acquisition of DIS Tech extended the business into final-test interfaces such as Device Interface Boards, but at the same time, "gross margin fell from 48.7% to 41.1%, and EBIT margin fell from 19.5% to 12.4%" (the report's "moat, management, and capital allocation" section).     Candidate two: China TPEG / DIS China localization. This is a pure "future option," contributing close to zero revenue today and blocked by multiple approvals. According to page 10 of the FY2025 presentation, the transaction involves a Chinese partner subscribing $35m for a capital increase in DIS China and receiving about 30% equity (note that this is external funding being brought in, not Technoprobe spending $35m outward). DIS China will establish an operating subsidiary in Suzhou to produce/distribute TPEG products. Its establishment depends on both Italy's Golden Power approval and Chinese SAFE/SAMR and other regulatory approvals, and operations are expected to "ramp gradually only by the end of 2026 / beginning of 2027." In other words, this line contributes almost nothing to €628.4m of revenue today. Even the definitive agreement is not due to be formally signed until the end of March 2026, and localized capacity will not begin scaling until the year 3 window. It is a classic "vision/option." The line that could potentially "open a second independent curve" (China TPEG localization) has near-zero revenue today, will only ramp around 2027, and is still stuck in dual Chinese and Italian approvals. AI/HBM upgrades make the first curve steeper, not a second leg. For Technoprobe to satisfy Baillie's standard of having someone take the baton in years 3–10, the needed evidence would be: DIS/back-end test moving from "dilutive" to "accretive" in margins and scaling meaningfully, Chinese localized capacity actually clearing approvals and contributing measurable revenue, and the share and unit-price upgrades in high-end AI probe cards proving durable. The report's "signals that would trigger reassessment" line, "DIS Tech and back-end test expansion failing to create clear returns," is simply the other side of the same coin. Before these are verified, treating these lines as an "already established second growth curve" would be narrative inflation. The pragmatic classification is: a strong core business plus a set of still-early value-chain options.

    Bottom line: Technoprobe's moat is a medium-strength combination of "engineering barriers + qualification barriers + relationship barriers + vertical integration + global local service." It has no consumer brand and no network effect. In essence, this is a specialized manufacturing moat that mature competitors can replicate at high cost, not a platform-style wide moat. My directional judgment is that over the next three to five years, the moat will probably widen modestly in the narrow segment of "the most advanced logic/HBM testing," while simultaneously weakening in "overall competitive structure and customer bargaining power." The net effect is "deeper at the high end, narrower at the base," and that widening depends heavily on the AI/HBM tailwind. It is not monopoly deepening that can be extrapolated indefinitely.

    Start with the real composition of the moat. The report scores it with restraint: medium brand, medium-to-weak cost, medium scale, essentially no network effect, medium-to-high switching costs, medium-to-high channel and local service, valuable patents/know-how but not enough to block all competition, for an overall 3/5.
